surgery treatment plans

How you prepare for surgery and how you rehabilitate after your surgery can have a critical impact on your end result.

To help our patients on this journey Mr Shane Blackmore with Stronger, offer a personalised Surgery Treatment Program to support you before and after your upcoming surgery. Stronger’s Surgery Treatment Program is designed for anyone who has seen Mr Blackmore and booked in for surgery. The program services both prehabilitation and rehabilitation and is delivered in our Richmond clinic.

Essential Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is an important component of your recovery following your surgery. Engagement in therapy assists in improving confidence, mobility, reducing pain, enhancing muscle strength & importantly ensuring safe rehabilitation.

Frequency of treatment following your surgery will vary based on factors such as your health, the surgical approach used & individual progress. While you recover it's important to follow the advice of your medical & allied health team. Every patient's recovery journey is unique & you will be provided with personalised recommendations based on your progress and unique factors.

How Does the Program work?

Structured to provide patients with a comprehensive Healthcare Team approach through a series of 8 tailored appointments.

The program accommodates a variety of appointment types, including consultations, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and practitioner-led gym sessions. The specific appointments can be adjusted based on individual needs, ensuring a personalised rehabilitation experience that effectively supports recovery and enhances overall well-being.

Prehabilitation Appointment

(2-6 weeks before surgery)

This is the opportunity to ask those questions you didn’t get a chance to ask your surgeon during your consultation and obtain pre-operative information to ensure you are ready for surgery and understand what to expect. This initial assessment will identify individual needs and goals prior to surgery. Our physiotherapist or osteopaths will prepare a personalised exercise plan to improve your strength and function, furthermore they will also test and gauge your current range of motion. If required you will also learn how to use crutches or a walker.

Post Operative Appointment

(2 weeks after surgery)

This appointment type is required for everyone who has surgery. During this appointment you will see both our medical nurse & physiotherapist (or Osteopath). Our nurse will check & treat your surgical wound, & if required removal of surgical sutures or staples. New dressings will also be applied. Our therapist will review your current mobility, provide treatment to help improve strength, & basic functional movements. Reassurance to how you are progressing post-surgery is also provided. Any issues will be reported back to Mr Blackmore for assessment.

Rehabilitation/Gym

x6 Appointments

Early Weeks: In the first few weeks following surgery, you should aim to have regular physiotherapy sessions, as often as 2x times a week. The goal during this time is to gradually increase mobility, improve strength, & basic functional movements.

First Three Months: Through the first three months, the frequency of visits should gradually decrease, depending on the patient’s progress. Patients might start with weekly sessions & then transition to bi-weekly or even monthly as they regain their strength & mobility.

These appointments will be across Physiotherapy and/or Osteopathy.
